Pregnancy Test
Whether you are trying to get pregnant or not, having absolute clarity on where you stand can be unnerving. While home pregnancy tests have improved over the years, having a more conclusive answer is key when planning for your future. Springfield Urgent Care offers pregnancy tests that are both quick and accurate for your peace of mind.
What Kinds of Pregnancy Tests are There?
The two main types of pregnancy testing are urine and blood testing. We perform both kinds of tests right here in our Springfield Township facility. Both provide reliable accuracy, and our helpful technicians will help figure out which test is best for you.
Urine Testing
Conducted just like urinalysis, you will be asked to urinate into a cup and your urine will then be tested for the presence of certain proteins that indicate pregnancy. Urine testing produces results that are quite accurate; however, on rare occasions, false positives may occur due to certain drugs or proteins present in the bloodstream.
Blood Testing
While urine tests are very accurate, there technically is the possibility of false-positive results. A blood test looks for the presence of a pregnancy hormone called HCG. HCG or human chorionic gonadotropin becomes present in the blood right after a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine wall. It is extremely unlikely that this hormone would be in the bloodstream if you were not pregnant.
